ClassDojo

Today we'll talk about an app/ website that will help you with behavior management. ClassDojo helps you keep behavior observations organized. Parent reports can be printed and sent home, so parents can take part in the students progress in class.

First, you should create a class and add students. Each student will have an avatar, a little monster which can later be personalized. Then, create your set of behaviors (choose one or two behaviors to start with and once you get comfortable with regularly giving points to students, you can always add new behaviors over time). Make ClassDojo a regular part of the school day. Record attendance, give homework points, points for being on time, etc... Consistency is key.

You should also involve students in the process. Let them vote on rewards, encourage them to customize avatars and check the website.

ClassDojo also offers a timer and a random key that will let you pick students randomly for any task. You can award students and keep track of score individually or as a whole group. Points can be reset whenever necessary (you can have a monthly behavior check and each month you can reset the points). Behaviors can be weighted so you can focus in on key behaviors.

This cool decoration pack will help you get students even more engaged! You can also show them this video:
